Mr. Griffin joined the Firm in 1997 after completing a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Diana E. Murphy on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Although he left the Firm briefly in 1999 when his family relocated to Vermont, he rejoined the Firm and constitutes the Firm's "East Coast Office." Since joining the Firm, Mr. Griffin has worked extensively on litigation matters in federal and state court systems and in tribal courts in Wisconsin and Michigan. He also has appeared before administrative agencies and has been active in negotiations of development, management and financing agreements relating to major tribal development projects.
Peter has especially distinguished himself in advising and representing tribes on a broad array of tax matters such as the tax implications of various economic development matters, including tax exempt financing, taxation of tribal corporations, taxation of non-member activities on a reservation, formation of tribal non-profit corporations, tax consequences of minor trust programs, tax consequences of housing grant programs, and application of federal excise taxes. Mr. Griffin also has represented clients before the United States Internal Revenue Service.
